MOUNT VERNON --
A 26-year-old Burlington man pleaded guilty Thursday to rendering criminal assistance in the January murder of Linda Taylor, who was found in an abandoned home on South Third Street more than two weeks after her death.
Adan Cantu entered his plea in Skagit County Superior Court and is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 15. He faces more than 12 years in prison.
Cantu’s co-defendant, 29-year-old Misty Ruiz of Mount Vernon, is charged with first degree murder. Her case has not yet reached trial.
According to court records, Linda Taylor was reported missing by her daughter Jan. 21. Two days later, police found Ruiz driving her car in Burlington.
A search of Ruiz’s cell phone records show that on Jan. 18, Ruiz sent text messages to Cantu during a period of several hours saying she planned to lure Taylor to an abandoned house with drugs so she could steal Taylor’s car and pick up her own children who were not in her custody, according to the affidavit.
Later that afternoon, Ruiz sent a text to Cantu saying she was going to pick him up and she needed a soapy towel, documents say.
Police searched the abandoned house in the 1600 block of South Third Street on Feb. 3 and found Taylor’s body with a bag over her head and an electrical cord tightly wrapped around her neck, the affidavit says.
Two days later, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office found a purse, bloody clothing and bloody gloves belonging to Linda Taylor near Pilchuck Creek and Highway 9 in Arlington, according to court records.
